When?

Departing from San Diego airport the morning of Sunday, June 29th.  Returning to San Diego airport the afternoon of Sunday, July 5th.

Where?

The DAVIS FESTIVAL takes place throughout Davis and Sacramento, CA.  A variety of sites are used (convention center, expo center, high schools, colleges, etc.) throughout the area.

The teams, coaches and chaperones will be staying at the UC DAVIS dormitories on campus.  We are expecting to stay at the same dorms we used last year (Cuarto area; Castillian dorms).

Cost? Included in your pre-paid fee are travel costs (van, airfare and transfers), room (dorms) and board (university-supplied meals).  Each player, coach and chaperone will receive a meal card good for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a small snack on each day.  There are a few exceptions where players will be expected to pay for their own meals (on the last day, for example).  Players should also allow for extra money for entertainment (movies, etc.), water, snacks and miscellaneous incidentals (forgotten items, souvenirs, airport meals).
Questions? If you have further questions or concerns, please contact D'Arbra at Sunwest's office at 858-550-0441.

SUNWEST VBC - DAVIS FESTIVAL 2003

TRAVEL: Attached you will find the flight manifests for your team. Flights depart the morning of Sunday, June 29th, 2003 and return on Sunday, July 5th, 2003 in the afternoon.

WHEN DO WE MEET?: All teams will meet at San Diego airport at <times TBD> on Sunday, June 29th.  Meet your coach and chaperone at the Southwest Airlines check-in desk immediately upon arriving at the airport - they will have your tickets. Bring your bags to be checked to the Southwest counter inside the airport. DO NOT check them with the skycap at the curb. All checked bags must have name and address attached. Put all detachable straps inside the bag. REMEMBER YOUR STUDENT ID OR DRIVER'S LICENSE, as they will likely ask for I.D. when checking in. DO NOT BE LATE TO THE AIRPORT!

WHEN DO WE PLAY?: Play for all teams begins on Monday, June 30th. Morning pools begin at 8am, afternoon pools usually begin at 2 or 3pm. We will not know where your team will be playing until Sunday night. If you are in a morning pool, you will probably have morning pools most of the week (same for afternoon pools). Most teams will play Monday through Thursday and Saturday. Teams in the top 8 normally play Friday as well. ALL teams will compete for a division championship on Friday or Saturday.

TIME OFF THE COURT: There will definitely be some down time each day. During this time, each team should get around to support other Sunwest teams. If you're in the 14s or 16s, be sure to check out the Convention Center where there will be booths and shopping as well as all of the 18s teams. Other time can be spent shopping, relaxing at the pool (Yes, we have a pool and spa), sleeping (always a favorite), seeing a movie, etc. This is all at the discretion of the coach and chaperone. All teams will travel as a group. No one is allowed to leave the dorms alone. You will have one day (Friday probably) with no volleyball matches. On this day, teams can decide what they want to do, but all teams MUST be in Davis by 4:30pm for the BBQ and the 18s/16s finals. If any of the Sunwest teams are in the finals, all teams will attend.

MEALS: The following meals are included and are eaten at one of several UC Davis dining halls:
Sunday: BBQ dinner; Mon-Thurs.: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack pack; Fri: Breakfast, bag lunch and BBQ dinner; Sat: Breakfast and bag lunch.
Players will need to purchase dinner on Saturday (July 5th) and breakfast and lunch on Sunday (July 6th) with their own funds (not included in meal plan). Also allow for meals if the team decides to leave the dorms on their day off.

DORMS: Sunwest is lucky to have great accommodations at the UC Davis residence suites just off the main UCD campus. Each suite has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a common living room. Most suites have 5 beds, and most teams will have 2 suites. Lost keys will result in a $35 replacement fee. If you need to reach a player or coach, you can leave a message at (530)752-2900. If you have an emergency, use the same number and they will track us down as quickly as possible. Or, call my cell phone at 619-997-1556 (keeping in mind that I also coach a team and may not be at the dorms). Some coaches will also have cell phones that can be used in an emergency. Laundry facilities will be available. Chaperones will only be responsible for washing uniforms.

PLAYING SITES: Most likely, the 18s will play at the Sacramento Convention Center, 16s at Cal Expo, and the 14s at UC Davis. Some teams will be at satellite sites around the main centers.

MONEY: This is always a tough question. Take into account the events and schedules described above and use your best judgement. Allow for money for laundry. Plan for an unplanned meal or two. For meals, water, Gatorade, etc. - figure $75 or so. This does not include entertainment expenses like movies or shopping. Any money left over will be split up and returned to the girls. The chaperones will manage the money for the week.

SUNWEST VOLLEYBALL CLUB - DAVIS PACKING LIST
