Sunwest Coaching Staff - Philosophy
At
Sunwest, the coaching staff is comprised of a group of dynamic individuals brought together
to further Sunwest's mission of creating an atmosphere that allows young athletes to attain
their fullest potential in the sport of volleyball. The coaches all seek to establish and preserve
the highest standards of quality with regard to teaching and coaching, whether at practice or in
a tournament setting. Team chemistry, an essential part of any successful unit on the
volleyball court, is also evident among the coaching staff; it is a common sight to see coaches
working with each others' teams at different practices.

Daniel
Thomassen
Email:
dan@sunwest.org
General Information:
Growing up in Orange County, I was immersed in the sport of
volleyball, and lucky enough to play for great coaches (Dan Glenn, Charley Brande,
Mike Delesandro) and in a great club. I quickly developed a passion for
the playing the sport, being part of a winning and respected program, and
sharing my knowledge with other players, young and old. During college
off-seasons and beyond, I've tried to take every opportunity to share the sport
with kids, so that they could have the same great experiences that come with
being part of a volleyball team. My passion is to teach players to be good
people who, in turn, want to learn to be good, skilled players. Coaching Experience:

Bento
Email:
tony@sunwest.org
General Information: As one of the original coaches of Sunwest
Volleyball Club, I’ve seen the tremendous growth and
development of the Club. We started as an unknown,
fledgling 3 team club, practicing at the Jewish Community
Center in East San Diego, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
on Black Mountain Road and at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Poway.
I guess with all of THEM on our side (and thankfully, J.T.) we were destined
to succeed. Today, we are a very competitive and respected component
of young women’s volleyball in San Diego and Southern California.
I am proud to be part of this organization and appreciate the
opportunity to teach good, fundamental volleyball to the
younger members of the club, and to see them learn to LOVE
the game as I do!
Coaching Experience:
 |
1987-1993, 1996-97 Coach Blessed Sacrament Parish School, SD. |
 |
1995, Freshmen Coach, Academy of Our Lady of Peace, SD. |
